Kitconnect helps you to assemble adapters for the connection points of the wiring harness on the assembly board and connect them to the measurement technology in less time.
With Kitconnect, you can use seven prefabricated basic elements to build adapters for practically any format of connection point. Each of these basic elements performs some of the tasks of an adapter.
1. Base rail - This is used to create the mechanical connection between the mounting plate with the connection point, the pin splitter with the measurement technology connection and the mounting base. You screw the base rail either to a Quick-Build mounting plate or to the wooden panel of a Prodboard. We include suitable screws for both connections. The base rails are available in lengths of 20 mm, 40 mm, 60 mm, 100 mm and 200 mm. Base rails with a length of 20 mm have a spring pin on the underside to prevent twisting, which fits exactly into the Quick-Build mounting platform.
2. Mounting plate - This is where you attach the connection points. These can be housings for mating connectors, terminal blocks for open cable ends, bare plug contacts, screws for eyelets or much more. The 3 mm thick GRP absorbs even the strongest forces that your employees have to apply, for example when pinning in large contacts or opening large terminal blocks. The stable fastening saves time because connector housings are fixed so firmly that employees do not need a hand to hold the adapter or mating connector when pinning.
Mounting plates are available in lengths of 20 mm, 40 mm, 60 mm, 100 mm and 200 mm. Depending on the task, you can choose the base rail to be shorter or longer than the mounting plate. On the wiring harness side, the mounting plates are pre-punched at 5 mm intervals so that you only need to drill the required holes.
3. Universal fastening set - With the universal fastening set, you can quickly fasten many types of mating connectors, especially those with rectangular housings, to the mounting plate. The set consists of a pre-punched pressure plate and two M3 clamping screws. You can either fix the housing with the rubber strips provided or glue the clamped housing in place. We supply a 2-component adhesive that also adheres well to polyamide in a practical double cartridge.
4. Pin splitter - The pin splitter is a compact mini connection module that you connect to the measurement technology on one side using the RJ 45 socket. The other side has 8 contact pins with which you can connect the measurement channels to the connection point or move the unused measurement channels to an output socket. The width of 20 mm corresponds to the grid of the base rails. The scope of delivery includes both the screws and spacer bolts. If you screw the pin splitter to the base rail with the spacer bolts, you can screw another pin splitter or a cover over it. Thanks to the 20 mm grid and the spacer bolts, you can screw pin splitters to a base rail in any arrangement and also in larger numbers.
5. Pigtails - Pigtails are prefabricated stranded wires. They have a plug-in sleeve for the contact pins on the pin splitter on one side and an open end on the other. All you need to do is crimp on the contacts of the mating connector or connect another connection point. We supply the pigtails in the colors brown - red - orange - yellow - green - blue - purple - grey. Corresponding to the color code numbers used for resistors, the colors allow you to keep track of pin numbers and measuring channel numbers. To make it easier to crimp contacts of different sizes, pigtails are available in cross-sections of 0.25 qmm and 0.75 qmm.
6. Patch connector - Use the patch connectors to forward unused measuring channels of the 8-pin connector to an output pin splitter. The first unused measuring channel is always connected to pin 1 of the output connector. This means that the remaining measuring channels are available again from pin 1 for the next adapter. The patch connectors are available in the colors red - orange - yellow - green - blue - purple - grey.
7. Cover - To prevent employees from being distracted by the adapter's pigtails and patch connectors during installation work, close the adapter with a cover. The lids are made of powder-coated sheet steel. They are an ideal adhesive base for magnetic labels. The lids consist of two separate parts: The top part and a set of side parts. The top parts are available in widths for one, two or three pin splitters. The side parts are available in height for one, two or three pin splitters on top of each other. You attach the side parts without tools by pressing in two expanding rivets on each side. This allows you to assemble lids for any arrangement of pin splitters from just a few parts in no time at all.
We also supply one-piece lids for two pin splitters next to each other or two on top of each other.
All cover parts are supplied with the spacer bolts and spacer washers that you need to screw them on.
Thanks to the standardized individual parts, you benefit from a high level of reusability. If you no longer need an adapter, you can dismantle it in a matter of minutes. You can reuse base rails, pin splitters, patch connectors and the cover parts to build new adapters.
What remains is the mounting plate with the glued or screwed mating connector, the crimped pigtails and possibly the universal fastening set cut to size. You can store these remnants with minimal space requirements. If you unexpectedly need the mating connector again, you can assemble another adapter from it in no time at all.
For first attempts with Kitconnect we offer a small starter kit consisting of 2 base rails length 20 mm and two base rails length 40 mm with all parts to build four small adapters. There is a combined starter kit with a selection of Panduit parts plus a selection of Kitconnect parts. If you want to lay simple wiring harnesses without measuring, we offer a pure quick-build and laying board accessory starter kit consisting of Panduit parts. The contents are the same as the Panduit starter kit, but without grid plates.
